Senior engineer in vigilance net in Kashmir

Srinagar, Aug 2 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) today searched the house of a senior engineer and seized papers related to assets and bank accounts worth Rs 1.5 crores.

An SVO spokesman said a case has been registered against engineer Pervaiz Ahmad Naqash, Executive Engineer, presently posted in Jammu and Kashmir Project Construction Corporation (JKPCC) under appropriate sections of Prevention of Corruption Act.

He said the engineer was in possession of assets disproportionate to his income acquired by indulging in corrupt practices.

His residential house at posh Peerbagh locality was searched by the Vigilance officials today and incriminating documents, including papers relating to assets and bank accounts which indicate that the official is in possession of movable and immovable assets worth over Rs.1.5 crore at present market value, seized.

He said verification conducted by the SVO has revealed that Mr Naqash, by misuse of his official position and indulging in illegal and corrupt practices, had acquired movable and immovable property disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The property includes a palatial house constructed over a plot of 2 kanals of land. The engineer has bank deposits running into several lakh of rupees in various banks besides life insurance policies.

Mr Naqash's salary is the only apparent source of income and acquisition of huge movable and immovable assets by him prima-facie attracts the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act.

Case under FIR 45/2007 P/S VOK was registered and investigation taken up, spokesman said adding the recoveries made during the search were being scrutinised.

He said the engineer was also an accused in Case FIR number 26/2007 P/S VOK relating to purchase of rapidite and florinite concrete hardener at highly exorbitant rates while being posted as Executive Engineer Gulmarg Development Authority.
