Security at Baidyanath temple to be beefed up

Ranchi, Aug 2 (UNI) The Jharkhand administration today decided to beef up the security measures keeping in view an estimated two lakh devotees visting the world famous Baidyanath temple every day during the month-long 'Shrawani mela' in Deoghar.

Senior police officials held a meeting at this holy town to review security measures specially in the wake of extremists targetting religious places.

Inspector Generals (IG) of Santhal Pargana and Deputy Inspector Generals of Bihar's Munger and Bhagalpur area decided to keep the temple under electronic survellliance through CCTV's installed at various locations.

IG H K Mishra told UNI that 500 additional policemen along with 300 women personnel had also been deployed in district to tackle any untoward situation.

''Besides, providing five-layered security cover in and around temple premises, our counterpart in Bihar would share each and every information with us to keep a tab on every activity,'' Mr Mishra added.

He said the discussion over providing security to devotees at Kanwaria path, beginning from Sultanganj in Bihar to Deoghar in Jharkhand, were also held during the meeting.

Meanwhile, a bomb disposal squad and Quick Reaction Team (QRT), comprising commandoes had been deployed at the Baidyananth Dham.

According to official sources, more than 40 lakh of devotees paid obeisance at the shrine last year.
