Nashik, Aug 2 (UNI) The one-day token strike given by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corproation (MSRTC) employees all over the state paralysed life in the city and district here.

The MSRTC strike was in protest against the government decision to allow transport of passengers by private opertors using jeeps, other vehicles and even the yellow-black maxicab as per their capacity.

All the 5,535 MSRTC employees except 13 depot managers and one divisional controller in the district took part in the strike. All the 863 MSRTC buses in the district, including 195 city buses, were off the roads. The strike is estimated to have caused a loss of Rs 46,41,000 to the MSRTC in Nashik division.

Passengers were put to a lot of inconvenience. But, private bus operators, autorickshaw and taxi drivers did brisk business. While the normal Nashik-Pune fare is Rs 130, private operators today charged Rs 300 from the passengers.
