Gangtok, Aug 02 (UNI) The agitation launched by Affected Members of Teesta (ACT) against the proposed mega power projects at Dzongu has evoked passionate support from a French minister.

French Member of Parliament Jean Lassalle has posted a blog at www.weepingsikkim.blogspot.com supporting the cause of ACT to protect the natural reserves of the state and maintaining the sanctity of Dzongu, a Lepcha tribal area.

Mr Lassalle, who is also the president of World Mountain People, in his online support, had requested the concerned authorities to consider the pleas of the Lepchas and immediately initiate a real dialogue.

The blog, which was started since the demonstrations began from June 20, gives daily updates on the hunger strike and developments regarding the strike.

The WMPA president in his blog mentions that he had sent letters to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Sikkim Chief Minister, governor and all the concerned ministers in New Delhi to protect the rights of the affected people in Dzongu.

In his letter to the prime minister, Mr Lassalle stated that,''The Lepchas, who are ready to die for their land and culture, are living examples of how man should respect the Earth. Their query deserves to be answered, their plea to be heard, their ordeal to be respected.'' Sikkimese settled in Melbourne and Canada are also chipping in with their 'anti-project' statements in the blog and support the ACT.
