Bird flu under control in Manipur: Govt

New Delhi, Aug 2 (UNI) The bird flu outbreak is under control in Manipur with culling of about three lakh poultry completed in the two districts and monitoring and surveillance still going on.

The culling of birds within the five km zone from the farm, where the Avian Influenza was first reported, was completed yesterday.

Disposal of birds and infected materials has also been completed in the area.

Thirty-four teams were deployed for continuing the culling operations in the area and they have covered all sectors/villages.

In all, 2,94,270 birds have been culled, 27,269 eggs destroyed and 23,490 kg feed destroyed. Mopping up operations commenced today.

Public has been informed through public address system by the District Administration.

Surveillance in the 5-10 km zone is in progress. Door-to-door surveillance in 79 villages/sectors is being undertaken through seven teams. More than 500 households have been visited by these teams till yesterday covering more than 60,000 poultry.

There has been no report of any unusual mortality form the surveillance zone or in any other part of the State.

Clean-up and disinfection is under progress. Department of Animal Husbandry, Department of Health, Imphal Municipality and Deputy Commissioners of Imphal East and West will be involved in the process of clean-up and disinfection.
