Maharashtra:Three jewellery shops looted at Akola
Akola, Aug 1: A gang of 15-20 robbers allegedly looted three jewellery shops and decamped with gold and other valuables worth Rs 30 lakh along Dabki road in the old city.
At arount 2030 hours last night, the gang first burst crackers, indulged in heavy stone pelting and even fired in the air with a 'katta' (country-made pistol) to create terror in the area. They then looted Fate Jewellers, Harikripa Jewellers and Asha Jewellers within a span of just 15 minutes, police said.
Meanwhile, city congress Mayor Mr Madan Bhagad, BJP MP Mr Sanjay Dhotre and special I G (Amravati range) V D Mishra rushed to the spot to pacify agitated locals. They have also promised stern action against the dacoits.
However, no arrests have been made so far, DSP Mr Deepak Pande said and added that further investigations are in progress.
