Nawaz Sharif to file plea in SC to seek return to Pak
Islamabad, Aug 1: Former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his brother Shahbaz Sharif, will file a petition in the Supreme Court tomorrow for their return to Pakistan, media reports said today.
Sharif had gone into exile and settled in Saudi Arabia in December 2000, following a deal between Pakistan and Royal Saudi governments months after he was ousted in a bloodless military coup in October 1999. He is currently living in London.
Former judge of the Supreme Court, Fakharuddin Ibrahim, will file the petition. Political pundits are terming this an important step for the Sharif brothers.
Ibrahim said he met Nawaz and Shahbaz Sharif during a recent visit to London. He said they directed him to prepare a petition to be filed in the SC for their return to Pakistan.
