689 pilgrims leave for Amarnath

Jammu, Aug 1: A batch of 689 pilgrims today left for Pahalgam and Baltal base camps from where they will move towards the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir, official sources said.

The convoy of 17 vehicles including 15 busses and two light motor vehicles(LMV), left from the base camp of Maulana Azad Memorial (MAM) stadium for Nunwan (Pahalgam) and Baltal yatra camps at 0500 hrs amid tight security, they added.

The convoy consists of 434 men, 139 women, 12 children and 104 sadhus.

With today's convoy, the 31st this year, a total of 48,083 pilgrims have left for Amarnath from the the Jammu base camp since July 2, sources said.
