Nepali awarded Ramon Magsaysay Award
Kathmandu, July 31 (UNI) Mahabir Pun of Myagdi district in western Nepal has been awarded the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award 2007 for Community Leadership.
The Board of Trustees of the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation today announced that seven Asians bagged the awards this year, the Asian Equivalent of Nobel Prize.
Pun was one of the Asians, who were given the prestigious award.
Others included an Indian, three Chinese and a Korean.
The foundation said the 52-year-old Pun was "recognised for his innovative application in wireless computer technology in Nepal, bringing progress to the remote mountaineous areas by connecting his village to the global village." He will receive the award at a ceremony in Manila on August 31.
