Ex-BNP member jailed over explosive chemicals
LONDON, July 31 (Reuters) A former British National Party (BNP) local candidate was jailed for two-and-a-half years today for storing explosive chemicals at his home.
Robert Cottage, who had been a member of the party for three years, had built up the stash fearing the country was on the brink of civil war.
Cottage, 49, of Colne, Lancashire, had earlier pleaded guilty to possession. Police had discovered the chemicals pile in September 2006.
He was cleared of conspiracy to cause explosions after two trials at Manchester Crown Court.
