Implement Sachar Committee recommendations: CPM
Chennai, July 31: The Sachar Committee's recommendations had given the minorities, especially the Muslims, an opportunity to come out of the cocoon and join hands with the Left, democratic and secular parties in their struggle for achieving their demands.
Inaugurating a special convention organised by the CPI(M) to press for early implementation of the Committee's recommendations here last evening, party Central committee member Mohammad Salim exhorted the minorities and the secular forces to defeat the designs of the communal forces.
He also appealed to them to evolve short-term and long-term strategies for their development in the socio-economic, educational and political spheres.
Mr Salim had a dig at the Sangh Parivar for attempting to create ''communal polarisation'' in the country and said the CPI(M) would continue to demand the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre to come out with a plan for implementing the recommendations.
Calling upon the minorities to strive for building a bridge with other deprived sections and working people, he said this was necessary as vested interests were trying to drive a wedge between the progressive forces and religious minorities by invoking religious beliefs.
Speaking on the occasion CPI(M) State Secretary N Varadarajan said his party would urge ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu, also a key constituent of the UPA, to take up with the Centre the issue of implementation of the Sachar Committee's recommendations.
