WASHINGTON, July 31 (Reuters) US President George W Bush called John Roberts today and the Supreme Court chief justice assured him he was doing well after suffering a seizure, the White House said.

Roberts, 52, was taken to a Maine hospital after a fall at his summer home today but a neurological evaluation showed no cause for concern, a Supreme Court spokeswoman said earlier.

Bush telephoned Roberts to check on his condition.

''The chief justice assured him he's doing fine,'' White House spokesman Tony Snow said. ''The president was reassured. He said he sounded like he was in great spirits and he was doing well.'' Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said late yesterday that Roberts was ''fully recovered'' from the incident and was staying overnight at the hospital as a precaution.

Roberts experienced a similar seizure in 1993, Arberg said.

Roberts is the youngest of the nine Supreme Court justices, who are all appointed to a life term.

Roberts, a conservative, was appointed to the Supreme Court by Bush. He took his seat on Sept. 29, 2005, succeeding William Rehnquist, who died of cancer.
