Two underground militant hideouts unearthed in Kashmir

Srinagar, July 29 (UNI) Security forces busted two militant hideouts constructed underneath a cowshed and a tree in the Kashmir valley during the past 24 hours, a defence spokesman said today.

Based on specific information, he said an operation was launched by troops of 13 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and local police in Gund Jehangir general area of Sumbal in Bandipora district yesterday.

During the search of the house of Mohammad Akbar Dar, a militant hideout constructed underneath the cowshed was busted.

Two AK-47 rifles, one UBGL launcher, eight AK magazines, one pistol magazine, 260 rounds of AK ammunition and 48 rounds of pistol ammunition were seized from the hideout, the spokesman said.

He said the house owner was apprehended and handed over to the Sumbal police station.

In another operation launched by 9 RR troops in D K Marg general area in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, the spokesman said a militant hideout constructed underneath a tree was busted.

He said 628 AK rounds, 181 PIKA rounds and two radio sets were seized from the hideout.
