Yala (Thailand), July 29: Thai security forces have arrested more than 30 suspected insurgents following an overnight raid in the rebellious far south, the army said today.

Of the total, six were insurgent leaders while 15 were members of a militant group called RKK - Runda Kumpalan Kecil - Colonel Acra Tiproch told Reuters of the six-hour raid by more than 100 police, army and local officials.

''We arrested more than 30 suspected insurgents after the raid last night,'' he said ''We have questioned them and found that six of them were key leaders of the group.'' Officials had confiscated weapons, including M-16 rifles stolen from an army camp that was attacked by insurgents in 2004, Acra said.

More than 2,300 people have been killed in a three-year separatist insurgency in the mainly Muslim, Malay-speaking region.
