Govt will safe guard media freedom: Minister
Doraha, Ludhiana, July 29 (UNI) Information and Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia today said that the government was fully committed to safeguard the freedom of press and would ensure that all mediapersons perform their professional duties freely without any kind of fear or hesitation.
Interacting with reporters here today, Mr Majithia said that the press was the fourth estate of a democratic system and had been performing its role in an impartial manner in disseminating the policies and programs of the government and freely high lighting the problems of the people. He said that media had also played an important role in the spread of education in the remote parts of the country and in the modern times it was instrumental in giving all the information relating to the latest inventions in IT and other technical sectors available at global level.
The Minister further informed that to properly facilitate the mediapersons in performing their duties freely, the government was bringing out its new Media Policy shortly, under which required facilities would be provided to the mediapersons in the state.
