Flood toll figure touches 46 in Bihar

Patna, Jul 28: With reports of two more casualties, the toll in the flood-hit Bihar rose to 46 and over one million people were affected while the situation continued to remain grim across the state.

According to reports here, one person was swept away at Deona village under Tardih block in Darbhanga while a villager was drowned at Bankatwa in West Champaran district yesterday.

Following incessant rains during the last few days, seven rivers in the state were flowing above the danger mark while more than 11 lakh people were affected due to floods caused by breach in several rivers in North Bihar.

Road and rail transport was disrupted at several places in North Bihar while links of the state capital with some district headquarters remained snapped following inundation of state and National Highways.

Central Water Commission officials said Punpun, Burhi Gandak, Bagmati, Adhwara Samuh, Kosi, Kamlabalan and Mahananda rivers were flowing above the red mark while Ganga, Sone, Ghaghra, Gandak were maintaining rising trend follwing heavy downpour in catchment areas during the last few days.
