Cong flays BJP for delay in monsoon cleanliness drive

Ahmedabad, July 29 (UNI) Gujarat Congress today registered its strong protest against the delay of cleanliness drive by the BJP-led Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation in the areas falling under the north zone of the city where the threat of water-borne diseases is looming large following heavy rains recently.

Gujarat Pradesh Congress delegates Dr Prafull Patel and Dinesh Sharma in a joint statement asked the municipal corporation to clean drainage in Saijpurbogha, Thakkarnagar, Naroda, Sardarnagar and Kubernagar wards within 72 hours or face public agitation. ''The municipal corporation has failed to clean the mess after monsoon in these areas, following which there is a possible outbreak of water-borne diseases,'' said the statement.

The statement alleged that instead of discharing their duty, the health officials of the municipality keep themselves busy in extorting money from from illegal vendors.
