Coast Guard rescues ailing British crew

Port Blair,Jul 29: The Indian Coast Guard has rescued an ailing British crew from Drilling Rigg, Galaxy Driller ship on passage from Kolkata to Singapore, officials said today.

On being alerted by Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) at Coast Guard Headquarters about a critically ill crew who had suffered heart attack the MRCC, Port Blair immediately swung into action and the vessel was advised to alter its course towards Diglipur, the Northernmost island of Andaman, Commandant Askhay Jain the Public Relation Officer of Indian Coast Guard in Andaman told the sources today. After receiving the information Coast Guard Ship Akka Devi patrolling in the area was diverted by MRCC for evacuating the patient to Port Blair for medical treatment.

Coast Guard Ship Akka Devi cruised in full throttle and reached the vessel 57 nm off East Island at early morning yesterday. The patient William Raymond Millar, a British National along with one attendant was evacuated and embarked onboard CGS Akka Devi at 0600 hrs, which arrived Port Blair yesterday evening with the patient, Jain said.

After initial medical examination by regional medical officer, the patient was handed over to Ms Fairmacs Shipping and Transport Services Pvt Ltd the local agents for further medical treatment at GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair.
