5 cops among 9 injured in attack on Surja Devi's dera

Jalandhar, Jul 29 (UNI) At least five policemen among nine persons were injured in an attack on Surja Devi's dera at village Jalbhai under Aadampur police station in the district this evening.

Senior Superintendent of Police Arpit Shukla told UNI that all the injured persons admitted in different hospitals, were out of danger.

The dera was attacked by scores of nihangs armed with sharp-edged weapons and some villagers after an altercation between a villager and a sewadar' of the dera.

According to sources, dera head Surja Devi and at least eight of her sewadars' had been injured in the attack.

The SSP said that senior police officers including SP City II Sarabjeet Singh had been rushed to the spot after the incident.

He said an FIR would be lodged soon in the incident and a few persons were taken into custody for further investigations.
