Tripura: Centre allowed 90 pc grant for power proj

Agartala, Jul 28: The Union Finance ministry has approved 90 per cent grant to the proposed gas based power project at Baramura hill range in Tripura.

Official sources here today said Ministry of Development of Northeastern Region (DoNER) had informed the state government in this regard.

They said the Centre had agreed to follow 90:10 ratios of grant and loan for the power plant.

Earlier, the ministry had struck down the power plant proposal following state government's demand for revision of existing funding pattern of 70:30 grant and loan.

The DoNER had also been pursuing for the project considering the development of power sector in Mizoram and Tripura, the officials stated adding that both the states would be benefited from the project.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and MPs from other NE states had been asking to expedite the commission of second power unit in Baramura Thermal Power Project since last three years.
