Two killed following windstorm in Jagadhri in Haryana

Chandigarh, July 27 (UNI) Two people were killed in Haryana as rains lashed isolated places the in north west region since last night.

A 10-year old boy, identified as Shakti, was killed when a wall of his house caved in following a windstorm and rain at Jagadhri town in Haryana.

In another incident in the town, a tea stall owner, Ramesh, was killed when a tree uprooted by the storm fell on him near Bhuria Chowk. The storm uprooted a number of trees in the area and disrupted power supply and telephone services, a report from Jagadhri said.

Moderate rain lashed Ludhiana and Ambala as many areas in Punjab and Haryana reamined covered by in monsoon clouds. Ludhiana and Ambala recorded 9.6 mm and 11.1 mm rainfall respectively till this morning.

Moderate to heavy rain pounded Himachal Pradesh, triggering fresh landslides in mid hill and lower hills. All rivers, including the Beas, the Sutlej and the Ravi, and their tributaries, flowing through the state, were in spate following heavy rain in their catchment areas.

Heavy rain lashed Kullu, Mandi and Kangra districts. Dhundi was the wettest place in Himachal Pradesh, recording 57.6 mm rain, followed by Pandoh measuring 45.0 mm, Solang Nala 29.0 mm, Sunderdnagar 8.8 mm and Bhuntar 7.9 mm. Berthin, Guler, Gamroor Kahu, Sujanpur Tira and Nagrota Surian also had rainfall.

Shimla and its adjoining areas were also lashed by moderate rain and the capital town recorded 11.6 mm rainfall overnight. Tourist resorts of Wildflower Hall, Kufri, Naldehra and Narkanda also had rainfall bringing a considerable fall in the temperatures in these areas.

Sharp showers lashed Chandigarh during the day which brought down the mercury, providing relief to residents from humid weather conditions.

The Met Office predicted moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers at many places in Himachal Pradesh and light to moderate rain or thundershowers at few places in Haryana and Punjab during the next 24 hours. It warned of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh during the period.
