Three-day exhibition on ancient coins, currencies

Puducherry, July 27 (UNI) The Puducherry-based Thondaimandala Numismatic Society's three-day exhibition on "Anicent coins and currencies", for the second successive year, began here today.

DMK legislator M A S Subramanian in the presence of CPI State Secretary Na Ra Kalainathan, MLA inaugurated the exhibition.

About 25 collectors of coins, currencies and stamps were taking part in the show, displaying coins which were in circulation during the period of Chola, Chera and Pandiya regimes. The currencies of Portughese, French, Dutch and German under the rule of Hitler, and plastic currencies were on the display. Old stamps of different countries were also on the display at the exhibition.

The purpose of the exhibition was to generate information and features of the coins in different shapes and materials which were in circulation during the different dynasties, according to T N Gopiraman, President of the society.

The "Nanayamani" award was also conferred on M Dorairasa, President of the Cholamandala Numismatic Society at the function.
