Thailand eyes Mizoram for business ties
Aizawl, Jul 27: DoNER Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar has told Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga there were abundant opportunities to tie up with Thailand in entrepreneurship and other businesses.
The Union Minister said that this had been confirmed by Thai Commerce Minister Krirk-krai Jirapaet during his recent visit to the northeast.
The DoNER minister asked the chief minister to encourage Mizo entrepreneurs to benefit from this oppotunity. He assured that Thailand government and the ambassador of India in Bangkok would fully cooperate in working out joint ventures and other forms of business collaborations with Mizoram.
While asking the chief minister to appoint an official to represent Mizoram, Mani Shankar Aiyar said, ''At the Central government level, the prime minister, at his plenary meeting with the Thai Prime Minister in New Delhi on June 26, announced the establishment of a joint working group between India and Thailand to encourage Thai investments in the Northeast region.'' The DoNER ministry had agreed to sponsor a 'North-East India Investment Opportunities Week' in Bangkok in the first week of October 2007 and has requested the participation of Mizoram at the event.
