Teenager killed, woman hurt in building collapse

Varanasi, July 27 (UNI) A teenager was killed while his aunt suffered serious injuries when their two-century-old house collapsed in Dashwashamedh area here today.

Sumit Mukherjee (17) was killed, while his aunt Jhoona Chakravarti (40) was injured seriously when their four-storeyed house collapsed in the Ganga Mahal lane near Pandey Ghat, police said.

The owner of the house Samir Chakravarty -- Jhoona's husband -- had gone to drop his minor son to the Bengali Tola Inter College when the accident occured.

While Sumit's body was sent for post-mortem, Jhoona has been admitted at the district hospital, where her condtion is stated to be critical, police added.

The house is just one of the nearly 250 old and dilapidated houses in the Dashwashamedh -- old city -- area which in the want for proper repair and maintainance.
