Seminar on 'The Outbreak of 1857' in TN

Chennai, July 27: The Centre for Contemporary Studies, an affiliate of Bharath Sevak Samaj will organise on July 30 a national seminar here on ''The Outbreak of 1857 with Special Reference to the anti-British Rebellions that Preceded it.'' Addressing a press conference yesterday, Centre for Contemporary Studies Founder Director Dr S Gopalakrishnan said eminent historians from various universities would present papers on different topics relating to the anti-British Rebellions, focusing more on South India.

The primary topics, included 'impact of 1857 on Tamil Nadu, revolt of 1857 and Madras City,' 'the anti-British Rebellion of the Marudu brother,' 'the restorative rebellion of Veera Pandya Kattabomman,' 'the Rebellion of Yusuf Khan alias Marudanayakam and the anti-British revolt in Northern Karnataka.' Centre for Contemporary Studies Director Dr G J Sudhakar said a large number of students from various colleges in the city would participate in the seminar.

ICHR Chairman Sabyasachi Bhattacharya would inaugurate the seminar while the valedictory address would be delivered by former Vice-Chancellor of University of Calicut K K N Kurup.
