Amritsar, July 27 (UNI) The police has tightened the security network of Akal Takht Jathedar Joginder Singh Vidanti after the head of the highest spiritual seat of the Sikhs today received a threat letter to eliminate him and his family.

The letter in Punjabi and dated July 17 was addressed to the Jathedar.

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Avtar Singh Makkar was also threatened in the letter, which was handed over to the police authorities in the evening.

According to official sources, the Jathedar and the SGPC chief were accused of being 'soft' on the Dera Sacha Sauda issue. In this context, the letter referred to the postponement of the anti-Dera rally at Ratia in Haryana by the Jathedar.

The writer of the letter threatened to eliminate the Jathedar and his family ''if he fails to take hard decisions on the Sacha Sauda issue''. A similar threat was handed out to Jathedar Makkar and his family members.

Meanwhile, SP (City) K Sharma met the Jathedar at his residence in the Golden Temple complex. SSP Kanwar Vijay Partap when contacted said the security of the Jathedar would ''further be tightened''.
