SC notice to bus driver in Wazirabad drowning case
New Delhi, July 27 (UNI) The Supreme Court today issued fresh notices to the driver of a school bus which got drowned in the Yamuna river due to his rash and negligent driving on November 18, 1997 in Wazirabad area of West Delhi, claiming lives of 29 children.
A Bench, comprising Justices S B Sinha and H S Bedi, issued notices to the driver on a petition seeking to enhance a compensation awarded to the families of the children by the Delhi High Court.
The petitioner has prayed to the apex court to set aside the judgement of the High Court dated May 17, 2006 awarding an inadequate compensation in violation of the law laid down by the Supreme Court.
The petitioner has asked the court to hike the amount of compensation to Rs 10, 0000 each to the family of the children killed.
