New Delhi, July 27 (UNI) BJP President Rajnath Singh today warned the Centre against any move to cut the troops deployed in trouble-torn Jammu and Kashmir.

Talking to newspersons here, Mr Singh referred to the fidayeen (suicide) attack on a battalion headquarters of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on the outskirts of the city, which was foiled by alert guards. Eight CRPF personnel were also injured in the attack.

The BJP President said there was a spurt in terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir and the situation in the neighbouring Pakistan was also bad. In this situation it would be ridiculous to think of reduction in troop deployment. In fact, the situation warranted more troops in the valley.

He criticised the Centre's soft approach towards the militants resulting in the increased terror incidents. He said the Government had to change its stance towards tackling insurgency in various parts of the country, particularly Kashmir.

The BJP chief criticised the letter reported to have been written by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to PWP leader Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in which he had agreed with their proposal for troop reduction in Kashmir.

"It is not the time to think about troop reduction,"he cautioned, saying even the army had also opined against any reduction in the deployment in the state.
