Mayor inaugurates mechanical road sweepers on highways

Mumbai, July 27 (UNI) Mumbai Mayor Dr Shubha Raul today inaugurated mechanical road sweepers for Western and Eastern Express Highway at Kherwadi junction.

The mechanical sweeping of the highways will be conducted from 2200 hrs to 0600 hrs and during day time, the road will be mopped manually with one person for one km of road. The one side length of the road on the Western Express Highway including the flyovers is 32.7 km with 2 mechanical machines deployed on it and one machine deployed on the 22.7 km of road on the Eastern Express Highway.

The contract has been awarded to M/s Ram Engineering and Construction Co and Bhumika Transport Mehta Enterprise in a joint venture for a period of 5 years at a cost of Rs 9.22 crores.
