Jagannath urges PM to implement Sachchar committee report
Patna, July 27 (UNI) Former Bihar chief minister and senior JD(U) leader Jagannath Mishra today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to implement the recommendations of the Sachar committee for all-round development and prosperity of the Muslim community.
In a memorandum sent to the Prime Minister, Dr Mishra lamented that even after lapse of eight months, since the submission of the report to the Centre, no step had been taken so far for the implementation of its recommendations.
''In National Development Council(NDC) meeting, PM had assured that 15 per cent of the Central budget would be spent for the welfare and prosperity of the Muslims'', he said, adding that despite the announcement by Dr Singh, nothing concrete had been done so far.
Expressing concern over the pathetic condition of the victims of Bhagalpur riot in 1989, the JD(U) leader said that compensation should be paid to them on the pattern of the package announced by the Centre for Sikh victims of 1984 riot, which had triggered soon after the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
