Inquiry by Lokayukta into irregularaties in Ashraya Scheme

Bangalore, Jul 27 (UNI) The Karnataka Government will order an inquiry by Lokayukta into the alleged large scale fake 'Right Certificates' produced for getting sanction of houses under Ashraya Housing Scheme, Minister for Housing D T Jayakumar informed the Legislative Council here today.

Replying to a question raised by Mr Mukyamantri Chandru (BJP), he said that over 7000 fake certificates were reportedly distributed in Kodagu district to get benefit under Ashraya Housing Scheme meant for economically weaker section.

The Minister said that the preliminary inquiry conducted by his ministry has confirmed the illegal circulation of certificates and assured the members to hold a Lokayukta Inquiry into it. While maintaining that no such incidents reported from any other Districts the Minister assured that guilty would be punished after receiving report from the Lokayukta.

Replying to another question by Mr C S Arun Machaiah (Independent), the minister informed that it was proposed to construct 4,45,000 houses under Ashraya and Ambedkar housing schemes during 2007-08 in the State.
