Contraband seized from Rajberia crossing near NH34

Barasat, Jul 27 (UNI) At least 7.5 quintals of poppy straw along with more than 6.5 quintals of poppy seeds were seized from Rajberia crossing near National Highway 34 in North 24 Parganas yesterday afternoon, police said here today.

Altogether six persons, including the driver, were arrested and the truck was seized. A case was registered under NDPS Act, police added. The truck was coming from somewhere in Nadia district and was on its way to the city.

Earlier on July 13, a district police team intercepted a truck and seized four quintals of poppy straw and arrested four persons, when the contraband was being carried through National Highway near Amdanga Block Development Office.
