Congress stages walkout from WB Assembly
Kolkata, Jul 27 (UNI) The Congress today walked out from the West Bengal Assembly protesting against the Speaker's refusal to accept an adjournment motion raised by the party, demanding apology from Tourism Minister Manab Mukherjee for his comments on Congress Legislative Party leader Manas Bhuniya.
The trouble started when Mr Bhuniya asked the Minister whether his department was organising any programme to celebrate the 250th year of Battle of Plassey and 150th year of the Sepoy Mutiny.
The Minister replied that it was the prerogative of the Information and Cultural Affairs department and hence his department was not taking any step in this regard.
But the Minister's reply could not satisfy Mr Bhuniya who continued to ask Mr Mukherjee about measures taken up by his department to celebrate the two famous historical occasions.
This infuriated Mr Mukherjee, who said Mr Bhuniya was not aware about rules of the Assembly and obstructing the proceedings of the House.
Taking strong exception to Mr Mukherjee's remarks, the Congress members staged a noisy walkout from the House.
Later, Mr Bhuniya told mediapersons that his party would boycott Mr Mukherjee till he apologised for his comments.
