Century-old building collapses in Varanasi

Varanasi, July 27: At least one person was killed and four others were injured when an over 100-year old four-storeyed residential building collapsed here due to incessant rains this morning.

Police sources said one of the injured was said to be in a critical condition. The building, in a dilapidated condition, was situated near the Pande Ghat in the temple town.

At least three people who were trapped under the debris have been rescued and taken to hospital with injuries.

The sources said the building might to have caved in due to heavy incessant rains that has been lashing the city for the past couple of days.

Senior district officials and fire brigade personnel have reached the spot and rescue operation is under way.
