Bench hearing Sohrabuddin case directed to hear another case
New Delhi, July 27 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed that the petition filed by eminent writer Javed Akhtar seeking CBI inquiry into an alleged fake encounter by the Gujarat Police in 2002 be heard by the same bench hearing the Sohrabbuddin fake encounter case.
A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan issued the directions to the bench headed by Justice Tarun Chatterjee when the matter relating to killing of one Sameer Khan Pathan by the Gujarat Police came up for hearing.
Akhtar, in his petition, has alleged that Pathan, who was said to be involved in the conspiracy to eliminate Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and branded as Lashkar-e-Toiba militant, was innocent and had nothing to do with militancy.
He belonged to a poor family and was killed in a fake encounter by the state police, the petition added.
