AP Assembly adjourned sine die on Left lathicharge

Hyderabad, July 27 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Assembly was abruptly adjourned sine die today as the Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP), CPI and CPI (M) stalled the proceedings in protest against alleged 'brutal' lathicharge on Left Party activists yesterday.

Trouble began when Speaker K R Suresh Reddy, as soon as the House assembled for the day, announced he was disallowing adjournment motions given notices by Opposition parties on the lathicharge.

The Opposition party members trooped into the well of the House and obstructed the proceedings despite repeated appeals from the Speaker for order. Mr Reddy then announced he was adjourning the House for more than 15 minutes.

When the House reassembled, the Opposition party members continued to stall the proceedings demanding setting aside of regular business and taking up an immediate discussion on lathicharge on Left activists demanding land and house sites for the poor.

Amid the din, the Speaker announced the questions deemed to have been answered.

The House adopted a resolution urging the Centre to provide Income Tax exemption to MLAs on various allowances provided to them on par with MPs.

Lamenting he tried his best to break the impasse but without success, the Speaker adjourned the House sine die even as the Opposition raised slogans against the government.
