AIIMS neurosurgeon commits suicide by injecting anesthetic
New Delhi, July 27 (UNI) In a shocking incident, a 35-year-old neurosurgeon at the prestigious AIIMS today allegedly committed suicide by injecting anesthetic at his brother's house in satellite town of Noida adjoining the city, police said.
Dr Sunil Kumar Kushwaha was found dead by his doctor-wife at his brother's Sector 38 residence this morning, said SP (City), Noida, Paresh Pandey. ''He had injected himself with an anesthetic,'' the official said.
No suicide note was found nor motive ascertained. However, the Progressive Medicos and Scientists Forum, an independent forum of AIIMS students and doctors of the pro-reservation lobby, in a statement issued alleged that Dr Kushwaha ''committed suicide pursuant to constant harassment in his department regarding his thesis''.
It was the fourth such attempt in the Cardiothoracic and Neurosciences Center in as many years, it added.
Family members said after Dr Kushwaha did not return yesterday, a 'missing' report was lodged with the police. Today they came looking for him here and found him dead.
Dr Kushwaha an MS, who was pursuing super specialisation course in neurosurgery (McH) lived with his wife Kamna, within the hospital premises. Kamna also works in the AIIMS.
Family sources denied that he was under any pressure and friends described him as a jolly person from whom anything like suicide was never expected.
His brother, at whose place the diceased allegedly committed suicide, is a manager with the Indian Oil Corporation and was not present at home when the incident occurred.
