4 killed after being struck by lightning in Akola, Washim

Akola, July 27 (UNI) Four people, including a woman, were killed after being struck by lightning in separate incidents in Vidarbha region last evening.

Motiram Kogde (48), a farmer from Balapur taluka in Akola district, died after being struck by lightning while he was working in the fields. Akola experienced heavy rains accompanied by lightning yesterday.

Maroti Kisan Shegokar (38), a farmer from Goregaon village in the district, was killed after being struck by lightning. He had taken shelter under a tree when the incident occurred, police said.

In neighbouring Washim district, two persons, including a woman, were killed in lightning strikes. The deceased have been identified as Umesh Vithoba Lanjewar (30) and Venubai Sudam Meshram (55). Both hailed from Bhuloda village in Karanja Lad taluka of Washim district.

At least six persons were injured in lightning strikes in different parts of Washim yesterday. Among them were three women, police said.
