Imphal, Jul 27 (UNI) About 25,000 chicken and ducks, affected with Avian Influenza, have been culled in Manipur so far.

The process had started yesterday by veterinary and health officials.

Veterinary Director Dr Th Dorendra said more places were also identified and the culling process would continue in the identified places tomorrow.

About 32 Rapid Reaction Teams (RRTs) were deployed and each team consisting of five members were pressed into service.

More deaths of chicken and ducks were reported from various places of Manipur, including the hill areas, whereas reports of deaths of chicken were confined only to Chingmeirong at Imphal East, veterinary officials said.

About 10,000 eggs and 500 kg of poultry feed were also disposed off.

The culling process, which was earlier confined to eight villages, would now be expanded. The process, however, would center only around five km radius of Chingmeirong, the place where the first death of chicken was reported on July 25.

A Control Room had been set up at the Office of the Directorate of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services at Imphal to deal with the situation.

About 1.5 lakh of these birds would be culled, officials added.
