Abbas security chief Dahlan offers to quit -source
RAMALLAH, West Bank, July 26 (Reuters) Palestinian national security adviser Mohammad Dahlan has tendered his resignation to President Mahmoud Abbas, a senior official in Dahlan's office told Reuters today.
Six weeks ago security forces overseen by Dahlan from the secular Fatah faction were routed in the Gaza Strip by Hamas Islamists.
The official said Dahlan, one of Hamas's staunchest enemies, wished to resign on medical grounds but had not yet had a response to his offer from Abbas.
