US is yet to schedule Rice's India visit

Washington, July 25: The US State Department has yet not scheduled the visit of Secretary Condoleezza Rice but said, ''she looks forward to traveling to India again.'' Department spokesman Sean McCormack gave this information yesterday in reply to a question whether Secretary Rice was visiting New Delhi to sign the US-India Civil Nuclear agreement.

In reply to a question about the agreement, he said ''we put out a statement on Friday about the state of discussions between the Indian and the American side on this issue. At this point, I don't have anything to add to that statement.'' He, however, said,''I would expect in the coming days, perhaps we will, but at right now, I don't. As for the Secretary's traveling to India, I expect that she will at some point. I can't tell you when.'' The joint statement, issued on July 20 at the conclusion of the talks of the officials of the two countries, said that ''substantial progress'' was made on the outstanding issues in the 123 agreement.

''We will now refer the issue to our governments for final review.'' It said, ''both the United States and India look forward to the completion of these remaining steps and to the conclusion of this historic Initiative.''
