Manipur prepares for bird flu outbreak
Imphal, July 25: The Manipur government has made all preparations to tackle the menace of bird flu in the state, following the death of large numbers of poultry during the past few days.
The government and people are apprehensive of bird flu outbreak in the state.
Official sources said the Veterinary department had sent samples to conduct tests at the Animal Diseases Laboratory in Bhopal and the National Institute of Virology at Pune and the government was awaiting the results. About 130 samples from a radius of about five km from the affected areas were collected for the tests.
Veterinary officials said adequate arrangements were being made to meet any eventuality adding that the Joint Commissioner of Union Agriculture Ministry A B Negi and other health officials were supervising the matter.
Adequate precautions were taken while buying chicken and fowl, officials added.
Meanwhile, people were appealed to remain calm and inform Veterinary officials about any unnatural death of animals.
