Melbourne, July 25: The charge against Indian born doctor Mohamed Haneef should be immediately amended because it is filled with technical inaccuracies, his lawyers have demanded.

"The charge as it reads isn't correct and from my correspondence with prosecutors they must realise that. They were going to fix it up on August 31. That's basically not good. I want it fixed now. The charge basically remains the same, but it's just deficient in the way it's been drafted," Dr Haneef's lawyer Peter Russo said.

Russo and Dr Haneef's cousin Imran Siddiqui have arrived in Canberra to discuss the case with the Indian High Commissioner.

"I think it's important that I come and tell them what's been going on," Russo said.

Russo also criticised prosecutors for waiting till Dr Haneef's next court appearance on August 31 to amend the legal wording of the charge.

Russo said prosecutors had still not granted Haneef's defence team access to a second record of police interview with his client, and they had not yet responded to their requests to be provided with the document.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) have admitted that crucial evidence against Dr Haneef, the mobile phone SIM card found at the scene of a British car bombing, was wrong.

The Fairfax newspapers quoted AFP sources as saying that it had not been confirmed that the SIM card was found at the scene of the failed Glasgow Airport attack, as prosecutors alleged during the Haneef's bail hearing.

The revelation has cast fresh doubts over police handling of the Haneef case.

Haneef, 27, is charged with providing support to a terrorist organisation by giving his SIM card to a relative later accused of being linked to a failed plot to bomb central London and Glasgow Airport.
