Four foreigners reported missing in Indonesia
JAKARTA, July 25 (Reuters) Four foreigners -- a Japanese, an American, a Singaporean and an Italian -- have been reported missing in Indonesia's second largest city of Surabaya, the foreign ministry and police said today.
Foreign ministry spokesman Kristiarto Legowo said police were investigating the report, but declined to comment further.
''At the moment it is still not clear who they are or what happened to them,'' said Commissioner Puji Astuti, police spokeswoman of East Java province, of which Surabaya is the capital.
A police officer in the city said the group had gone to Surabaya to open a language school.
Japanese news agency Kyodo, citing Japanese government sources, said a Japanese man had gone missing in Java, Indonesia, together with several people from the United States, Singapore and Italy.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuhisa Shiozaki declined to comment on the issue at a news conference, saying: ''It could involve human lives.'' REUTERS NC SSC1139
