Rahul cracks whip against 'inactive' party workers
Rae Bareli/Amethi, July 20 (UNI) Coming down heavily on the ''lackadaisical'' attitude of some party workers in Uttar Pradesh, Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi today asserted that the ''reluctant'' and ''inactive'' office bearers would be removed.
''The Congress will tighten noose against the inactive and lackadaisical party workers and office-bearers by increasing youth representation in the party,'' Mr Gandhi said, while attending party programmes at AICC president chief Sonia Gandhi's parliamentary constituency Rae Bareli and his parliamentary segments of Amethi.
Exhorting party workers to rise above personal differences, the young MP asked them to work towards reviving Congress' golden era in the politically most important state of UP as internal wranglings were neither beneficial for the party nor the workers.
Mr Gandhi said despite the fact that youth represented 60 per cent of the population in the state, successive government have not let them play an active role in the development of the state.
''The state youths are already playing a vital role in the development of Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra and Karnataka. The time has come when they ought to play a major role in UP too,'' he said.
Claiming that his only aim was to save UP from ''further destruction'', Mr Gandhi said he would not leave the state till ''the rule of justice returns''.
Taking about his achievements as an MP, he said during his tenure, nine educational institutes were established in the Amethi segment, which also generated employment opportunities.
