Pelican signals to guide pedestrians while crossing road

New Delhi, July 24 (UNI) In order to facilitate pedestrians in crossing roads safely, the Delhi Traffic Police has installed 'pelican signals' at 20 intersections across three districts in the city.

The new system would reduce the 'wait time' that pedestrians have to spare for crossing the road, according to police.

''Besides inculcating a sense of discipline on the road, the system would infuse a degree of confidence among people while crossing road besides removing fear of being hit by continuous traffic flow,'' the police said.

Motorists are advised to drive their vehicles cautiously at these junctions, it added.

The 'pelican signals', installed in New Delhi, South and South-West Delhi, have a 'push button system' which pedestrians can use to cross roads. Besides information boards on how to use the system, have also been put up at these crossings and proper 'zebra crossings' have also been provided, the police said.
