Port Blair, Jul 24 (UNI) The National Commission for Backward Classes will hold a Public hearing here on August 3 for inclusion of various castes and communities in the central list of backward classes in this Union Territory.

The Commission had earlier received many requests from various representatives of various communities.

Under Section 9(1) of the National Commission for Backward Classes Act(Act No 27 of 1993), the National Commission for Backward Classes(NCBC) should examine requests for inclusion of any class of citizens as a backward class in the central list of backward classes and hear complaints like ''over-inclusion'' or ''under-inclusion'', if any, of any backward class in such lists and tender such advice to the central Government as it deems appropriate and under Section 9(2) of the Act such advice of the Commission shall ordinarily be bindling upon the central Government, VK Mishra the Officer in-charge of Andaman's Information and Publicity Division informed media today.

A few communities in Andaman and Nicobar Islands including locals and settlers have already been given the OBC status but there are still some confusion and resentment among other communities.

The communities that have been included in the OBC list are those who came here for historical reasons, have been settled here by the government and do not have any other Indian state to go back to. For them, the process of implementation of the recommendation is already underway.

The Andaman and Nicobar Commission for Other Backward Classes(OBC) had recommended the reservation of 38 per cent government jobs, to be shared by two broad groups: sons of the soil, and post-1949 settlers.
