Moderate rains cool Delhi, waterlogging in many areas

New Delhi, July 24 (UNI) After light rains yesterday, Delhi was today hit by a bountiful spell of moderate to heavy rains, bringing mercury down further and providing Delhiites considerable relief from the warm and humid conditions over the past few days.

The heavy burst of rain, which followed an overcast sky since last night, caught Delhiites by surprise this afternoon.

Though the showers lasted only for a brief while, the ferocity was such that 35.1 mm was recorded till 1730 hours.

The maximum temperature dropped further to 34.4 degrees Celsius, from 35.5 degrees yesterday. The minimum also dropped to 25.8 degrees one degree below normal.

The rain, while providing relief from heat and humidity,also brought in its wake problems of waterlogging in many areas.

Complaints of waterlogging were recieved from Civil Lines, Nazafgarh and Paharganj area, an MCD spokesperson said.

A total of 12 complaints of waterlogging were recieved from all across the city of which seven were in Civil Lines alone, the spokesperson said.

With the sky still overcast, more rains could be expected in the city in the next few days.

Infact, weathermen have forecast a generally cloudy sky during the next 24 hours with one or two spells of rain and thundershowers.
