Left parties to redefine support to UPA after VP polls-CPI

Lucknow, July 24 (UNI) Left parties supporting the Congress led United Progressive Alliance(UPA) government at the centre will review the performance of the government after the Vice- Presidential polls to redefine its support to the government.

Communist Party of India(CPI) Chief A B Bardhan today said that during the review by the four Left parties, performance of the government would be assessed on the basis of the Common Minimum Programme(CMP) and after that the support to the UPA government could be ''redefined.'' Addressing a press conference here, he took strong exception on the role of the government over the draft of the bill for unorganised labour, the low rate of interest on Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and on the possibility of agreement with US on the nuclear Treaty.

'' The draft bill on Unorganised Labour is purely a mockery with the people while the interest of the EPF should have been 9.5 per cent'', he said adding that Indo-US nuclear pact should be passed by Parliament before its acceptance by the government.

He further said that Left parties will raise all these issues during the coming monsoon session of Parliament starting in the first week of August.

Commenting on the bickerings in the United National Progressive Alliance(UNPA) during the just held Presidential polls, Mr Bardhan said the eight parties of the Front did not have any policies or programme for the people nor they fulfilled the aspiration of the masses.

'' Only a Left and Democratic front could give a viable alternative against Congress and BJP and even the parties of UNPA are welcome to join them by amending their policies'', he added.

The CPI General secretary said even Samajwadi Party could join the Left Front if it change its policy like it has been done by the Telugu Desam Party(TDP).'' It is a good thing for the change of stand by the TDP by snapping ties with BJP'', he added.
