Kerala HC directs govt. to compensate undertrial prisoners
Kochi, Jul 24(UNI) The Kerala high court today directed the state government to give compensation to those undertrial prisoners who had been held for periods exceeding the actual punishment for the offence they had committed.
A division bench consisting of Chief Justice H L Dattu and Justice K T Sankaran directed that the compensation be given within one month.
The Director General of Prosecution today requested the court to grant three months time to disburse the compensation. The bench, however, rejected this request and directed that the compensation be awarded within one month.
